Some of you might be asking the question:
Why exactly do people buy robot vacuums?
And the answer is as simple as: having someone (or something) around to automatically help vacuum your home so that you don’t have to. Making household chores a thing of the past. However, up until now, no robot vacuum has really been able to truly 100% free up our hands.
1st Gen Robot Vacuums
Can help you clean the ground, but erm… After a few sweeps, you’ll need to help it take out the garbage.
2nd Gen Robot Vacuums
Now feature a dust collection bin that can be used to dispose of garbage for several months at a time, but the ground still needs to be mopped manually by yourself.
3rd Gen Robot Vacuums
Ok, now we’re starting to get somewhere. We can now vacuum, mop, and collect dust. But the mop attached needs to be hand washed every time to make sure it’s clean (bummer).

As time goes on, we’re now starting to see robots appear that can vacuum, mop, collect dust, can also clean your mop cloth… Oh wait, you thought this was over? Well, you still need to change the water tank yourself, pour dirty water out, and, yup, you still need to wash the base station. And if you don’t clean it regularly, be prepared for some stinky gut wrenching odors.
So… Is there a truly hands-free experience when it comes to robot vacuums?

But my kitchen and bathroom are only so big. Where on earth am I going to put this thing?
There are two common ways to install stations to help with trying to achieve automatic refilling and drainage when it comes to robot vacuums.
The first method is to use external water tanks (one for clean water, one for dirty water) and then when finished cleaning your robot will discharge waste water into the dirty water tank. The biggest problem is that every three to five cycles you’ll need to change water. And if you forget to do so, you’ll be met with some quite interesting odors.
Another way is to connect directly to a household water supply, but there are two difficult challenges to overcome: either extending the pipes or placing a large base station in the kitchen. Imagine being squeezed into a small corner by a base station while cooking, no thanks!
So, is there a better way to install the base station in our kitchens and bathrooms?
The first major innovation of SwitchBot S10 is its dual base station design which separates the Auto-empty Station (or base station if you will) and Water Station apart. By doing this, you can decrease the amount of space needed drastically, making it perfect for kitchens and bathrooms alike. At the same time, in order to make it even more convenient to install, the volume of the Water Station itself was reduced as much as possible, especially the height, taking it from 30cm to 20cm, then down to 15cm and finally making it just a mere 10cm high!
So how did we do it? Well, the internal layout of the Water Station was reconstructed, non-essential functions were eliminated, and the mop cleaning function was transferred to the Floor Cleaning Robot itself. Leaving us with a station height of just 10cm, making it small enough to be placed directly next to most kitchen skirting lines, leaving as little of an impact on your home life as possible.

But doing all this requires electricity right? I don’t have any extra electrical outlets in my kitchen or toilet. What should I do?
We all know that the automatic water supply and drainage function of washing machines require electricity, so SwitchBot S10 must also require electricity to be able to automatically refill and drain, right? The only problem we found was, in general, 99.9% of household water supplies do not have any extra electrical outlets nearby.
So how do we provide power to our Water Station?
Well, easy, we decided to have it powered by the Floor Cleaning Robot itself! Which means when SwitchBot S10 is cleaning and reaches its Water Station, it will dock itself and then charge when it realizes that it’s connected to the Water Station and not the Auto-empty Station, allowing our Water Station to be self-powered at all times.
Ok, so this Water Station is only for refilling and draining water. What about mopping, washing, and drying?
Those of you who have perhaps dived into the robot vacuum market before will already be aware that a lot of products on the market currently come with larger base stations that have a water tank attached, and also include a cleaning function for mops too. So where are the mop washing and drying functions of SwitchBot S10 located? The research and development team here at SwitchBot found that in addition to the hassle of regularly pouring and changing water in a base station with water tanks, users also needed to regularly clean and dry mops during use, which usually lead to leaving stains on floors at home due to not being able to clean efficiently.
At the same time, in order to ensure that our Water Station can be easily installed in kitchens and bathrooms without any hassle, we innovatively put the self-cleaning mechanism of S10’s Roller Mop inside the Floor Cleaning Robot itself, which helps for better cleaning, prevents dragging dirty objects along your floor, and leaves your Auto-empty Station clean.
So that just leaves how to dry the Roller Mop itself, right? Easy. We have also innovatively integrated the drying function into the bottom of the Auto-empty Station to help save space too!
Waaait a minute, pipes in kitchens and bathrooms around the world are different, and I also have a garbage disposal unit at home. Can I install this?
Being able to be placed in a kitchen and toilet is one aspect, but more importantly, being able to connect to the pipelines in said areas was also a potential issue. Our R&D team has conducted extensive on-site investigations and installations in the United States, Europe, and Japan, and has researched and optimized installation accessories for such markets. We have developed a set of installation accessories that can adapt to different countries, and have conducted on-site installation testing.
After comparison and summary, no matter which country you are in, as long as you have a dishwasher and washing machine at home, and use the water inlet and sewage accessories we provide, you will be able to quickly and easily connect your water supply system to our Water Station.

I think even though we have done a lot of experiments, everyone may still be concerned about how easy installation really is when it comes to connecting to water supply systems.
